A Big Gay Market is a designated, intentional, and affirmative space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their allies, especially for those in our community who have intersecting marginalized identities, to join together in queer and trans joy for a cause. Our nonprofit organization organizes markets, creative mentorship programming, and creative community meet-ups.
The Board of Directors will have a key role in decision-making, governance, policy and procedure drafting and implementation, marketing and advertising, fundraising and writing prospective sponsorship letters, and volunteering at select markets.

This is a volunteer role within A Big Gay Market, but with some additional perks. Those who apply who are vendors will receive waived vendor applications for all larger markets - April, July, October, and December at Washington Park Lake House in Albany. Those who are supporters who apply will receive waived access to all ticketed special events at our markets and paid for breakfast and lunch at all markets worked at.
All Board of Directors must be able to attend monthly in-person or virtual working meetings. These will be pre-scheduled around all members’ schedules with clear agendas that are 1.5-2 hours.
As a Board Member, you will become a steward and driving force behind A Big Gay Market and our trajectory for years to come! You will have a key role in decision-making, governance, policy + procedure drafting and implementation, assist in marketing + advertising our events, assist with fundraising + writing to prospective sponsors for our community programming, and work select markets day-of from set up to break down.
The best candidate to join our Board of Directors is curious about how to build and create a sustainable foundation for an organization rooted in the queer+ gender expansive creative economy. You are someone who wants to both learn and also share your unique skills to be a leader and force within the A Big Gay Market community.
You must be 18+ to join the A Big Gay Market Board of Directors.
A Big Gay Market Board of Directors will be comprised of 12 individuals in the first year. Cyren, Frankie, and Cheyenne will select the first cohort for a year-long term. These can be renewed at the end of the year for an additional two years, for a full three year term, if the selected candidate would want to continue their service.
Applications close on Saturday, November 28 by Midnight. Application will be reviewed and selected candidates will invited for a 30 minute virtual interview with Cyren, Cheyenne, and Frankie by Sunday, December 6. All candidates that have been accepted as a Board Member, or put on the waitlist, will be notified by Sunday, December 13. The Board of Directors Orientation will be scheduled late December/early January. This will be a three hour in person training and meeting, with lunch provided, which will include time to vote on our President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and our Advisory Council Committee Chairs. The inaugural Board of Directors will be announced end of January 2027.
